1. What is the Cutest Pet Contest?

Virginia Living’s Cutest Pet Contest is a fun, spirited competition where pet owners can showcase their adorable pets of every variety. Participants submit photos of their pets, and the public votes to determine the cutest pet in four categories: Top Dog, Coolest Cat, Farm Friend, or Adorable Other.


2. Who can participate?

Anyone in Virginia who owns a pet is welcome to participate. 


3. What types of pets are allowed?

All kinds of pets are welcome—from furry to feathery—and correspond to our four categories: Top Dog, Coolest Cat, Farm Friend, or Adorable Other. Submit dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, reptiles, fish, and other animals, as long as the photos comply with the contest guidelines.


4. How do I enter the contest?

To enter:

  • Submit a photo of your pet through our online entry form. It’s free to enter!
  • Include your pet’s name and its breed if you know it.
  • Submission period: Feb. 3–March 16, 2025
  • Voting period: March 17–April 17, 2025
  • Be sure to submit your entry before the deadline!
  • Remember to vote often beginning on March 17 to benefit the animals at the Richmond SPCA!

5. Is there an entry fee?

No!


6. Is there a fee to vote? 

Your first vote is free, and you can purchase additional votes to secure your win. Proceeds benefit the Richmond SPCA, so vote often! 


7. What is the Richmond SPCA? 

The Richmond SPCA is Virginia Living’s collaborative partner for our Cutest Pet Contest and will be the beneficiary of funds generated by our online voting platform. 

Founded in 1891, the Richmond SPCA is a national leader in progressive animal sheltering and advocacy, humane care and education located in the city’s Diamond District. An independent nonprofit, the organization does not receive funding from any government entity. Its mission is to cultivate a community committed to saving, protecting, and enriching animal lives; to promote compassion for all living things; and to help people to find comfort, love, and companionship with the pets who share their lives. 


8. Can I submit more than one pet?

Yes! You may submit multiple pets, but each entry must be submitted separately.


9. How are the winners selected?

Winners are selected through public voting. One will be selected in each of the four categories—Top Dog, Coolest Cat, Farm Friend, or Adorable Other.


10. What are the prizes?

Prizes include your pet featured in the May/June edition of Virginia Living magazine; a faux Virginia Living cover featuring your pet—perfect for bragging and framing; a swag bag from the Richmond SPCA; and lots of recognition on our social media channels. 


11. Are professional photos allowed?

Yes, professional photos are allowed as long as you own the rights to the image.


12. Can I vote for my own pet?

Yes, participants are welcome to vote for their own pet. You can also encourage friends and family to vote.


13. How do I vote for a pet?

To vote:

  • Visit the contest voting page.
  • Browse the entries and select your favorite.
  • Follow the instructions to cast your vote.

14. Can I edit my submission after entering?

No, once submitted, entries cannot be edited. Please review your entry carefully before submitting.


15. Are there any restrictions on the photos?

Yes, photos must:

  • Wholesome photos only.
  • Be clear and high-quality.
  • Not include any promotional material or watermarks.
  • The person submitting the photo must own the rights to the image or have explicit permission to do so. 

16. How will I know if my pet wins?

Winners will be notified via email or phone and announced on the contest website and social media pages.


17. What happens to the photos I submit? 

By entering, you grant the contest organizers permission to use your photos for promotional purposes, such as on the website, social media, or marketing materials.


18. Can I withdraw my entry?

Yes, you can withdraw your entry by contacting the contest organizers before the deadline.
